I would like to say something about the Seven Smoke Towers,  which is located in Datong city Shanxi Province, my hometown. And it is in the mountains. As the name reveals, it consists of seven towers, they are quite close to one another, 500 meterstops, they were all made of clay blocks, with a ladder-like thing inside and a small opening at the top. We call it smoke towers, because in ancient times, without any aid of technology, soldiers lighted a fire in these towers and the smoke coming from them indicated that a war was coming, thus informed all the troops around the country to lock and load for the approaching blood-shedding, fun fact, there were many small countries in the realm of China at that time.

 

I remember, when I was 7 or 8 years old, my big brother took me there taking a bus first and walking about 15 minutes then, when I was standing at the bottom of one of them, it was actually so formidable, 15 meters high or so, much bigger that I thought it was, and at the top of it, a lot of people were crowding together, most of them were men, which appeared so scary to me that I couldn't gather my guts to top it. I guess right now they are left forggotten and for no use at all, cus it was too roughly-constructed to be designated as a place of interest. From close observation, I was shocked by the wisdom behind that news could spread within an eyeshot, because it's like thousands of years ago, no tech at all.

 

And for me, probably its significance lies in the reminder that quiet near where I live, wars once raged, and if I had a time machine, I would not hesitate to go back to see what happened, coz, actually, any related information has not been spotted either on the Internet or from books.
