TASK 1

The diagrams compare the present and future plan of one particular company with detailed information.图片5.png

图片6.png

1. 布局与变化;

2. 注意描述逻辑;

3. 注意时态应用正确;

范文:

The given diagrams compare the changes between present office set and projected plans related.

According to the first graph, large grass areas are allocated in both western and eastern regions of the provided company, with the former connecting the centre via an open door. In the northern part, a kitchen, a canteen and a storage room is distributed respectively from northwest to northeast. On the contrary, the southern side is colonized with four office rooms, along with an entrance and a reception in the southeast.

The future plan indicates, however, the western grass land would have been changed into an outdoor sitting area for the company staff, whereas the eastern one is going to be replaced with a coffee machine in the north and a meeting place located in the far south of grass land. Apart from this, kitchen and canteen are converted into office rooms, and reception-entrance is relocated in the centre south, where the number of office rooms is reduced by 2. In addition, the restroom would have been repositioned to the northeast side of this entire map.

To sum up, the interior of the company is planned to be more business-oriented and its exterior would be more space-efficient.

TASK 2

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Write about the following topic:

Research into new types of medicine and treatments are essential for improving health and deal with diseases. Who do you think should fund these researches: private companies, individuals or governments?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Write at least 250 words.

Medical advancement like new drugs and therapies have been improving the average longevity of citizens and both their phyical and mental well-being, so a massive amount of funds have been and would be continously poured into this field. This essay discusses whether the fundings should originate from ordinary people, major coporations or governments.

Individuals, or the general public to be precise, perform little in medical progress. This fact should be widely acknowledged although this group is the major one that enjoys the achievements on health care. That is mainly because any one kind of new medicines requires time and money that is way beyond any single citizen’s affordability compared with the other two parities mentioned.

Business markets, in comparison, play a vital role on this issue. Businessmen can better detect and meet the needs of people – patients in this context – and they are able to invest greater capital in the pursuing latter higher profits. This strong incentive can bring along fresh treatments and a series of new drugs in the short term. However, the patented medical products with high prices can inflict greater pain for the lower class, which is the root of growing health disparities in the global context. Simply put, health care should not be regarded as a commercial activity but a social obligation.

Governments should take over this mission and cover the most costs. Their obligations, a well-argued and decided issue, are to organize social assets and to invest into fields that benefit people amid the general development. Moreover, the authority occupying greater statistical resources can better decide in which particular disease or diseases should the fundings be invested to help the majority or the immediate. Yet, it is to admit that tax revenue for these scientific researches may be ended up in vain as all the progress have based on numerous failures.

To sum up, I believe that major global companies and governments can both be the main investors on these projects whereas some tradeoffs can be implemented to benefit virtually all citizens, like regulation on price fixing and supervision on the distribution of government fundings.

Part 2

Describe a time the vehicle you were traveling in broke down. (new)

You should say:

Where you were going;

Who you were with;

How long it took to fix the vehicle;

And explain how you felt about it.

I'd like to talk about a time when we had a road trip and during which we encountered an incident of a tyre burst.

I remember it was last summer vacation, my friends and I decided to take a self-drive tour to a nature reserve about 70 kilometers away from downtown. We were all excited about the trip and prepared for it for a long time.

The first half of the trip went really smoothly, it took us an hour and a half to get to the camping site. The view was just spectacular. You know, we felt really close to the nature, you wouldnt get anything like that in the city centre. We had ourbarbecue party and even managed to see the Milky Way hanging above our heads at night.

Unfortunately, the next morning, when we were on our way to the next destination, something rather irritating happened. There must have been some, you know, rocks with pointy ends on the road. We heard a really loud explosion and it left us with a flat tyre. Thank god we weren't going really fast at the point. Otherwise we may have found ourselves injured, to say the least. So I think I can say that wed dodged a bulletthere. However, none of us had that kind of experience of changing a tyre. We thought about ringing for a tow truck but it was really far away from the city centre, we could've waited for hours. Therefore, we decided to phone our friends with experience for detailed instructions.

In the end, we managed to get the spare tyre on. What a experience!

Milky Way: 银河

rocks with pointy ends: 有尖角的石头

flat tyre: 瘪胎

dodged a bullet: 躲过一劫

Part 3

1. Where can people find help when the vehicle they are traveling in breaks down?

sample answer:

Well, normally they would have to phone the nearest garage and ask them to send some help. Sometimes, you could contact your insurance company and they would arrange something for you. Also, some high-end cars like BMW or Mercedes Benz, their customer service is outstanding. You could call them for help when necessary.

2. Do old people and young people consider the same thing before purchasing a new vehicle?

sample answer

I don't think so. Well, in general, old people would place more importance on safety instead of the performance and appearance, right? I mean, if it's a car which is proven to be really safe, they'd ignore the factors like whether it goes really fast or whether it looks good. Also, older generations would consider the factors like whether it would be suitable for the whole family to use.

3. Do you think it's necessary to learn how to repair a vehicle?

sample answer:

To some extend, yes. I mean, everyone has to learn some basic knowledge about fixing a car. Sometimes, it's nearly impossible to get help when you're in the middle of nowhere. However, unless you're really interested, you don't have to learn a lot about this matter. Sometimes, it could be dangerous when an amateur tries to fix the car.

4. Are you good at dealing with problems by yourself?

sample answer:

I'd say so. Once I've decided that this is something I could solve, I would try any method possible. Getting help online is very common for me. For instance, when my laptop doesn't work, I would follow the instructions online and most of the time I can manage to get the problem sorted.

5. What will you consider before choosing a form of transport for a trip?

sample answer:

I reckon for me, there are three major factors. First of all, it's definitely the time it costs. You know, whether you could arrive on time or whether you have to spend a lot of time on that type of transport. Secondly, I would consider about the cost. Last but not least, I would find out whether I would be comfortable in the form of transport. For example, I seldom take the old trains in China because it's always a terrible experience.
